Santa Ysabel Casino Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Case Dismissed

September 7, 2012 | Posted by Groshong, Geoff | Print this page

After a hearing on September 4, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of California dismissed the petition, according to a minute order filed that same day. The judge held that the casino is not separate entity from tribe, and thus the "governmental entity" is not entitled to bankruptcy protection. A written decision was not yet available. The Santa Ysabel Casino filed for bankruptcy, struggling under more than $50 million in debts.  Their major creditor, another tribe, the Yavapai-Apache Nation of Arizona, opposed the bankruptcy petition, along with the trustee.
