The National Conference of American Indians and the California tribes will host the NCAI 69th Annual Convention & Marketplace in Sacramento, California October 21-26. Over the course of six days, convention meetings, education breakout sessions, and events will focus on the rights and sovereignty of American Indian and Alaska Native tribes.

As always, the agenda and invited speakers are impressive. The Honorable Ken Salazar, Secretary, U.S. Department of the Interior, and Kevin Washburn, the newly confirmed Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs, Department of the Interior, are both slated to speak during the First General Assembly on Monday, October 22.

Northwest tribes represented on the draft agenda of speakers include the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe, the Kalispel Tribe, the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, and the Shoalwater Bay Indian Tribe. The Quinault Indian Nation and Canoe Society is hosting the "Paddle to Quinault 2013" Reception to help communicate their intent to host the largest cultural gathering along the west coast to promote, strengthen, and preserve the culture and traditions of the Coast Salish people.
