On June 22, 2011, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) granted the request of Standing Rock Telecommunications, Inc. ("Standing Rock") to receive federal Universal Service subsidies to support communications services provided on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation ("Reservation"), located on the border of North Dakota and South Dakota. This action is significant because it should now be easier for other Tribally-owned communications providers to obtain federal subsidies to serve their own reservations. read more
